SUGI HAPKIDO MEXICO
Master Jozef started his martial arts journey as a 12-year-old kid. His first experience with martial arts was a Karate course in self-defense. After this course, he joined the Goju Ryu Karate Club in his town, where he trained until he went to study at college.
In 1989, he started training Aikido and Kick Box. He trained Kick Box for one year. Master Jozef liked Hapkido, but there was no school or club at that time in his country. The main martial arts styles known were Taekwondo, Karate, Aikido, Judo, Kendo, Ninjutsu, and Ju-Jitsu. He started training in Aikido because it was closer to Hapkido than other styles. When he was 18, he was called to serve in national military service, where he taught martial arts to other soldiers. After his national military service, he left to learn English in Great Britain, where he also continued training the Aikido. After his return home, he helped open an Aikido Club in his hometown.
In 2000, he went to live and work in the Czech Republic. During this time, he contacted Grandmaster Samuel G Plumb and started training Hapkido as his student. Master Jozef invited GM Samuel G Plumb, Master Nick Sellar, and other instructors to visit and teach him Hapkido in the Czech Republic. He traveled a few times to visit England, where he trained under the tuition of GM Samuel G Plumb. In 2004, he emigrated to England, where he worked and studied Hapkido with GM Samuel G Plumb.
In England, Master Jozef met Grandmaster Young Gul Son and his Demo Team from South Korea. The same year, he had an opportunity to train Hapkido and visit South Korea. He stayed in England until 2012 when he emigrated to México. There, he opened a Hapkido School. Since 2013, he has been a Grandmaster Young Gul Son's student. His students and the general public in México had the opportunity to learn Hapkido directly from Grandmaster Young Gul Son regularly at annual seminars until the COVID-19 crisis hit.
